I Did a Personal Best

Feeling good.

Yesterday I walked the Big House Big Heart 5K

A year ago I could not walk a mile.
Unless I had several breaks.
This was a milestone for me.

I almost didn’t do it.

The night before I started wigging out.
Could I walk that far?
Would I have to be carried away on a stretcher?

I started seeing signs…

I [...]

You Could Not Pay Me to Pay Him

Seriously.

Went to the phone store.

To upgrade my service.
And get a smarter phone.
(No worries, the wold has not ended yet.)

I was assigned to John.

UGH! Bad gut reaction.
Sadly, gut was right.
Couldn’t stand him by the end of our conversation.

In a very short time, John disparaged the heck out of me.

My phone plan was ancient.
I mixed up [...]

He Spanx, She Spanx?

What the heck?
Shopping with James in St. Pete last week.

Wandered in the Men’s department.
Came across a display.
Spanx for Men.

It was a towering display.

Both undershirts and underpants.
Stacked six feet tall.
Plus a TV showing movie star he-men raving about their Spanx.

Spanx helps men hide their beer bellies.

And their love handles.
Fit leaner cuts.
Look younger.

James was totally mortified.

Never [...]

You Are Not My Mother

   No need for lectures!
Just called the headquarters of an organization.

I have been a member for years.
A local leader.
And good member - not a pain in the you know where.

I had an idea I thought could help.

Was willing to invest some time.
Give a big boost up.
Make a difference in a cool way.

The senior staff who answered [...]

Not My Proudest Moment

I questioned the effort.
It was a long day.

Good, but long.
The debut of my road show - 3-hour workshop.
Then lunch and feedback with a friend.

My mind hurt.

Dinner loomed.
No restaurant at the hotel.
Carryout menus in my hand.

Eating healthy on the road is hard.

All I wanted was something simple.
Options didn’t look promising.
What to do?

I started to debate [...]

The Experiment Started with a Fizzle

   Drats!
Last Friday started my 90-day YouTube Experiment.

I confessed my ignorance.
Committed to explore.
And share all on June 29th in the Chapter Leaders Playground.

Friday came and went without even a whisper.

Flu has been making rounds in the house.
GiGi, the puppy, takes lots of time.
Raindrop, the jealous, takes more.

In reality, I’m overwhelmed.

So much learning.
So many options.
So little [...]

Don’t You Forget About Me

   Please.
12 years ago I launched an ezine.

Cynthia D’Amour’s Active Member Minute.
Written for chapter leaders.
Sharing stories of volunteer bloopers, successes - and lessons learned.

I originally wrote every week.

After five or so years, backed it down.
Twice a month.
And then a few years ago once a month.

Last summer I finally bought the dominance of social media.

I had [...]

I Can See Clearly Now

   Cool.
This weekend I spoke for SHRM in Redondo Beach, CA.

Stayed at an interesting place.
With a new restuarant.
Supposed to be hip.

Decided to check out the restaurant.

Went to dinner with Peggy Hoffman and her husband.
(They were also working with SHRM.)
Being at a wharf, it had a nautical theme.

The neatest thing was the menus.

When the server handed [...]
