True Confession…

 I was wrong.
I spent the last week in St. Pete Beach writing my new book, The Lazy Leader’s Guide to Outrageous Results.
The Lazy Leader concept had been rolling in my head for almost a year.

It was time to come out.
In print by January 2009.

A week ago, I planned to write a sassy, “in-your-face” book

New Detroit Mayor Closes with Star Trek

“To boldly go where no one gone has before.”
Ken Cockrel, Jr. was just sworn in as the 61st mayor of Detroit.
The last few months have been rough for Detroit.

The previous mayor was guilty of a felony.
The economy weak.
Frustrations of citizens growing.

Newly sworn-in Mayor Cockrel outlined his vision.

He described next steps.
He acknowledged the challenges.

Then he [...]

A Miracle Happened Today…

My website has a new ‘do!
My website has needed a makeover for a while.

The content was solid.
The look was outdated.

The overhaul had been a B-list item forever.

Something was always more important.
I didn’t have the energy or inspiration.
Whatever!

Late this summer, a shift was in the air.

Sarah picked up my “slow work.”
The stars were finally in [...]

No Introductions Were Needed…

 Who was that guy?
At tonight’s meeting, the first speaker was introduced as “needing no introduction.”
That would be great - if everyone knew who he was.

No one at my table had seen him before.
His name on the agenda gave us little clue.

A few people across the room nodded their heads - as if they knew him.

Did I sit [...]

I Think She’s Still Mad at Me

So I thought I’d help Mom by writing in her blog today.
Raindrop here.
First of all, thank you to everyone who emailed asking how I’m doing.

I’m fine.
I did some mystery eating.
It didn’t stay down.

Mom hates my mystery eating.

She doesn’t understand.
It’s my thing.
It’s like I get blinders on when I see something that might be tasty.

I don’t like [...]

It Took Effort to Get Off the Couch

And I almost didn’t do it.
I’m on a committee for the Jr. League of Ann Arbor.
We planned our meeting over a month ago.

I received a few reminders about it.
The meeting was on my Outlook calendar.

And yet, when my work day was over, my mind was fried.

I had taught a webinar.
Written an article.
Consulted with a [...]

Raindrop, the Psychic Dog Knows…

I’m about to go on the road for a week!
Yesterday Raindrop stared at me while I worked.

Last night she was relentless.

Raindrop wanted to be close.
She wanted my attention.
All through the night.

Finally I got up at 4 AM.

It was obvious Raindrop was agitated.
And I wasn’t going to get to sleep.

So I trudged downstairs thinking…

I’m about to fly to [...]

That’s How We’ve Always Done It…

Who knew we needed to change?
Our two-story, red brick house is about 100 years old.

The first floor is almost always comfortable.
The second floor is either 20 degrees hotter or colder.
Not very fun in winter or summer.

We thought it had always been that way.

It’s an old home.
Others said it was normal for a house like ours.

Guy, from Farmer’s Insulation, [...]
