Living Doesn’t Have to Hurt

Anymore.
I had a big ah-ha this week.

Didn’t realize how much I used to hurt.
Or what I was missing when out of shape.
Surprised by the insight.

I had to walk the entire length of the MSP airport - more than a mile.

Used to leave me exhausted.
Covered with sweat.
This week it was just a walk.

I decided to stop [...]

She Who Lets Mind Wander Needs to Like Purple

A lot.
Had a great workout at the gym.

New personal record time for distance.
Hit some new speed highs.
Mollie suggested I step up to a bigger challenge.

Came home riding on a bubble of dancing thoughts.

Grabbed the goods to make my protein shake.
Healthy liquids.
Lots of blueberries.

My mind was consumed playing with Mollie’s challenge.

I heard the blender groan in [...]

Anchors Away!

ARGH.
Finished my third trip of the week last night.

Hopped on the scale this morning.
My gut clenched.
Did I gain again?

I didn’t.

I was down a half pound.
My mind still went wild.
Thankful I wasn’t all the way back up to THAT number.

I’m anchored to an old weight.

Always measuring against it.
Instead of looking ahead.
One foot in the past.

People can [...]

Three Lessons Learned in 2011

Ah-ha!
Yesterday I shared my year in photos.

Today want to look at lessons learned.
I’ve done a lot of growing.
Want to keep it going.

First lesson: Don’t think so much.

As a consultant, my thinking skills make me valuable.
On a fitness journey, they can get in the way.
Big time.

I drove Mollie crazy this year with my theories.

Why my weight [...]

A Christmas to Remember

In unexpected ways.
James had surgery a week ago.

Our normal holiday plans got vetoed by the doctor.
No travel.
Holiday at home with just us and the dogs.

I decided to lean into it.

Not my first choice.
But happy to help James heal.
(Maybe a little down time wouldn’t be a bad thing?)

Christmas Eve morning I got a text from a [...]

What’s My New Normal?

I’m not sure.
Today a friend shared his new fitness plan success.

So proud of how much he’s in the groove.
He said eating healthy and working out has become his new normal.
I like the concept of a new normal.

Realized I’ve still got a foot well planted in my old normal.

Sure I eat pretty clean now.
Work out fairly [...]

Could It Be Me?

Really?
I realized today I’m in a new phase of my fitness journey.

I started out Queen of the Couch Potatoes.
Just showing up the gym was a miracle.
Walking to and from my car counted as part of my workout.

Then I moved into Weight Loss Phase I.

I finally had enough muscle base.
Began to eat clean.
And Mollie’s workouts took [...]

How Can I Do That in Public?

Uncomfortable!
My gym is closed this week.

For their annual deep cleaning.
I appreciate their commitment to a clean environment.
And am frustrated at the timing this year.

I just started my early morning quest.

Up at 5 AM.
On to the gym.
Workout done before dawn.

Explored alternatives.

Decided to walk the mall.
(AC and no mosquitoes clinched the decision!)
But what to wear?

I sweat a [...]
