I’m Not Ready to Go There

   It’s too soon.
Yesterday I got a 2010 calendar in the mail.

A giveaway from a nonprofit.
To make me feel indebted.
So I would send a donation.

But here’s the thing…

It’s barely half way through the year.
I’m not past fireworks yet.
Definitely not thinking 2010 details.

Plus let’s talk about the calendar…

Sure the photos are pretty.
But I don’t use a [...]

Yesterday I Let Go of Control

   Today I am still alive.
Yesterday I shared with the world I goofed.

Okay, perhaps a tad melodramatic.
But I did tell thousands.
And put story on the Chapter Leaders Playground.

This fall I plan to do a 10-week, 30-city speaking tour.

The Lazy Leader Transforms America - One Volunteer at a Time!
Training 5,000 volunteer leaders.
Impacting more than 250,000 volunteers.

To make goals, need [...]

Who Do You Blame for Losing Members?

   The chapter next door?
Just published an article getting a lot of action on Twitter and via email.

@SteveDrake says it “Beats ‘Bowling Alone’!”
Thought I’d share here so we can talk about it.
What do you think?

Here’s the big picture…

One association, two local chapters.
The City Chapter is losing members.
The Metro Chapter is growing.

City Chapter blames Metro Chapter for [...]

It Was Not a Fun Way to Start My Day

   Or my birthday!
It a sweet morning…

Woke up early with no problem.
Enjoyed the birdsong outside my window.
Smiled at the beauty of my special day.

I started down the steps to launch my new year.

And literally went flying.
Thump, thump, thump!
I fell halfway down the stairs.

I was stunned.

In pain.
And thankful grasping the railing broke my fall.
I was also [...]

The Lazy Leader Transforms America

  One Volunteer at a Time.
Have you ever challenged yourself to really stretch your comfort zones?

Where it almost hurts?
And you have no idea how you will pull everything off?
That’s what I did.

A little over a month ago, I decided I was tired of all the negative news.

Unemployment rising.
Jobs disappearing.
World sucks.

I decided it was time to do [...]

I Thought I Was Right

   And was wrong!
I spent a few days last week in lovely Vancouver.

There to speak about leading with compassion when budgets are tight.
Stayed in a room over looking the water.
Enjoyed watching the ships.

Didn’t understand the orange structure.

Why build a high-rise in the middle of the water?
Downtown was full of tall buildings.
But in the middle of the [...]

I Had an Alarming Experience

   Painful lesson to learn.
I’m in a lovely hotel in Vancouver.

My cell phone doesn’t work here.
Not a big deal.
Except it’s my main time piece.

I have to depend on old-fashioned things to get by.

Like the alarm clock in the room.
Usually I can figure out how to set the alarm.
It’s just been a while.

This morning I got a [...]

My World Had Shrunk

And I didn’t realize it.
Raindrop here.

I live in a neighborhood with lots of dogs in it.
But over the winter, many of us stay inside more.
For months, I only saw the dogs that live across the street.

Recently dogs started walking their owners again.

I didn’t like seeing them near my yard.
I made a lot of noise.
Mom started barking at me!

Mom [...]
