Staying Strong in the Midst of the DFW Tornado

(My friend Pam Donahoo, who is the Executive Director at American Mensa, writes about her tornado experience this afternoon. Her office is very close to DFW airport.)

Typical spring weather for DFW.

  • Thunderstorms broke out mid afternoon
  • Tornado sirens wailed.
  • The staff gathered in the conference room
Gallows humor prevailed.

  • “Auntie Em, Auntie Em …”.
  • Worst team building ever  ”
  • But, we were nervous…
40 minutes later we all came out…
  • Thought it was a false alarm.
  • Until we walked a block away.
  • (The photo above is what they saw.)
Major damage.
  • Roofs gone.
  • Power lines and trees down.
  • Tornado was really close!
We were very lucky!

Makes me think of association leaders …how often do they show a happy face when they are really scared or nervous when they are experiencing the unexpected?
Thank you to Pam for sharing her experience. We are keeping those not as lucky as Pam was in our hearts and prayers.
