A Farewell to Cujo

James just watched the movie.

Steven King’s thriller Cujo debuted as a film in 1983.

  • Lots of politics leading up to the big issue.
  • Mom and five-year old son locked in car at end of Cujo’s yard.
  • Cujo is a rabid St. Bernard.

The terror escalates…

  • It’s hot out – will they die in the car first?
  • Does mom risk death to get to the house?
  • Will Cujo eat them alive?

The movie’s big premise no longer stands.

  • In today’s world, mom would have a cell phone.
  • Call for help.
  • A lot less drama.

James and I had a lively discussion debating other movies impacted by changes in the last ten years or so – it is quite the list.

Makes me think of chapter leaders…how has technology impacted some of the traditions in your chapter?

  1. This is the type of conversation we have frequently. Several of us like to bring up things about the “olden days” that the younger staff members have no connection with. Then we all laugh about our different experiences.

A recent conversation we had involved research papers in college. I went to the library, checked the card catalogue and found the book in the stacks. Then I looked through the index found the pages that corresponded with my research and read the pages to make sure it was what I was looking for.

Several of our Gen Ys did all of their research online with ebooks, using Control F to find content and never went into the “stacks” of their library. One twenty-something said she had a new appreciation for how hard school must have been for us. That was funny!

    Exciting times. Great post.

  2. Thanks for commenting Christina! So true about college. When I did my MBA a few years ago, I did not buy any books. Everything was virtual. Very different than when I went to college the first time and had hundreds of dollars of books to buy each semester.

Since school was harder, must mean you are now smarter too, right? ;-)
