Still Flabbergasted!

The office phone rang.
- James answered.
- The caller, Justin, asked for me.
- Told James he was showing at ASAE’s upcoming expo.
James asked his standard question for unknown callers.
- “Will Cynthia know what this is about?”
- Justin responded, “No Ma’am.”
- James informed Justin he was a sir.
“No Way!” exclaimed Justin.
- And then continued on with his pitch.
- What happened to an apology?
- Or a little humble pie?
Talk about crummy potential client outreach…
- Ironically Justin’s company claims to be member engagement pros.
- With an emphasis on team member development.
- Scary!
Who let that guy loose on the phone?
Makes me think of chapter leaders…what kind of ambassador training do you give your leadership team?

I think this is the same caller I ended up hanging up on!! I’d suggest that everyone in the organization would benefit from some ambassador training — especially staff positions that turn over frequently (for example, if an org goes through receptionists who answer the phone a lot). But then, common sense would tell us that a tele-sales person like Jason would have handled your call better, too, right?!?
Good for you Ellen!
Of course, we both know common sense is not always so common.
