Still Flabbergasted!

   Doesn’t happen often.

The office phone rang.

  • James answered.
  • The caller, Justin, asked for me.
  • Told James he was showing at ASAE’s upcoming expo.

James asked his standard question for unknown callers.

  • “Will Cynthia know what this is about?”
  • Justin responded, “No Ma’am.”
  • James informed Justin he was a sir.

“No Way!” exclaimed Justin.

  • And then continued on with his pitch.
  • What happened to an apology?
  • Or a little humble pie?

Talk about crummy potential client outreach…

  • Ironically Justin’s company claims to be member engagement pros.
  • With an emphasis on team member development.
  • Scary!

Who let that guy loose on the phone?

Makes me think of chapter leaders…what kind of ambassador training do you give your leadership team?

  1. I think this is the same caller I ended up hanging up on!! I’d suggest that everyone in the organization would benefit from some ambassador training — especially staff positions that turn over frequently (for example, if an org goes through receptionists who answer the phone a lot). But then, common sense would tell us that a tele-sales person like Jason would have handled your call better, too, right?!?

  2. Good for you Ellen!

Of course, we both know common sense is not always so common. ;-)
