I Shocked Myself

Then giggled.
Today I worked out with Joy Queen of Torture.

Monday I didn’t feel great.
Today was a day to push.
(Thankfully I felt better.)

It was time to face the pull up machine.

My record was 2.5 pull ups.
(Happened last week.)
I was in the zone.

I climbed on.

The machine dropped my body.
I hung suspended.
And I pulled.

The next few moments [...]

I Fought the Mosquito

And the mosquito won.
I was getting ready for a dinner meeting.

In the bathroom.
Touching up my makeup.
Running just a little late.

A baby mosquito was in there too.

Dive bombing me.
Gunning for my hand.
And my face.

I tried to shoo it away.

It stuck like glue.
I swatted at it.
Sort of haphazardly.

The mosquito was small - but determined.

It dodged my [...]

I’m Pulling Up in the World

   Sort of.
Yesterday I worked out with my trainer, Joy, Queen of Torture.

She reviewed the stand up paddleboarding challenge video.
Analyzed what needed to be done.
Decided to take me to the next level.

It was time to do pull ups.

I laughed at her at first.
I’ve never done one in my life.
What was she thinking?

The gym has an [...]

I’m Taking On the Challenge

   Of stand up paddleboarding.
We all need a good stretch goal.

One that makes us giggle with excitement.
When thinking, “What if we achieve it?”
Helps keep our work interesting.

This fall I’m making a physical one.

To go stand up paddleboarding.
When I’m in Florida next time.
(Scares the daylights out of me!)

I’m good at setting outrageous business goals.

Do it all [...]

What Was She Thinking?

   Seriously.
Just got an email.

From a marketer.
Who is not going to email me any more.
At least that’s what she said.

I’m not sure how to react.

Is she making a promise or a threat?
I don’t know who she is.
She got my name from an association I belong to.

I don’t like when they give my email address away.

I asked them [...]

It Was an Unzipped Kind of Day

Literally.
Today I spoke for Soroptimist International of the Americas.

1,500 leaders.
6 languages.
Closing keynote.

I was primed.

Morning sessions had gone well.
I felt good.
Lots of energy.

And I rocked it.

Told compelling stories.
Drove home major points.
Got a standing ovation.

Walked out doing the happy dance.

Until I went to the bathroom.
Discovered my pants unzipped.
ARGH! I just spent an hour projected in HD!

I [...]

She Pulled My Heart Strings

   Darn.
I decided to not renew my chapter membership.

I was unable to make any meetings this past year.
Next year looking same.
Little value offered beyond meetings.

I got a dues invoice.

Then another.
I didn’t feel the love for $100+.
Was letting go.

Then I got an email from the incoming president.

Reminded me of past fun we’d had together.
Wished I would [...]

From Misfit to Rock Star

One dog’s story.
When Mavis was a pup she had big dreams.

To be a seeing-eye dog.
She went to school - and didn’t make the cut.
She was too social.

Mavis could have given up.

Called herself a failure.
Blamed the school for stupid rules.
But she didn’t.

Mavis decided to turn her weakness into a strength.

Find an employer that appreciated [...]
