Take the Money When Offered

   Close the sale!

I needed a new coat.

  • Got an ad from a favorite store.
  • Cute coats on sale!
  • Zipped out in the morning to snag what I wanted.

I quickly found my coat.

  • Good fit and color.
  • Grabbed a sweater also on sale.
  • Happily proceeded to the check out.

The sales associate asked me if I was local.

  • There was a secret sale on Sunday.
  • With a special card I could save more.
  • She would give me one.

Ready to go, I turned her down.

  • Coat was in hand.
  • Had plans for the weekend.
  • A few dollars wasn’t worth the hassle.

She was shocked and upset.

  • “But you’ll save money - almost $30!”
  • I caved to the urging.
  • Agreed to let her hold my stash and I would come back.

Yesterday afternoon I had to pick up office supplies.

  • The office store was next to a clothing store I like.
  • Decided to take a quick peek.
  • And see what they had.

I found the coolest coat!

  • Edgier than the other.
  • (Which is more me.)
  • Worth every extra penny it cost over the “great” deal!

Happily I walked out with my new coat.

  • The blocked sale gave me permission to keep shopping.
  • I have plans for Sunday.
  • Won’t be going back for the coat - or anything else.

The clerk’s quest to help me save money cost her store a nice sale.

Makes me think of chapter leaders…do you oversell membership when talking to potential members?

  1. Great example of how we sometimes get in the way of our own success when it comes to sales!

    Once you’ve made the sale…..STOP talking! ;)

  2. Thanks Nora. Once they are hooked, haul them in! Who cares if you didn’t finished the schpeal?
