Ruby the Evil Red Reindeer

   Raindrop here.

Ruby lives down the street.

I don’t like her.

She’s red and evil.

Always frozen in place.

I bark at her every time I pass.

She just stares into the distance.

As if she’s better.

And ignores me.

Dad says Ruby’s fake.

A statue.

A yard decoration.

Moved around by her owners.

But I know better - Ruby’s just mean.
As Mom always says, makes me think [...]

I’m Alive Thanks to the Ann Arbor Fire Department

   James too.
It was the middle of a summer night in 1999.

College kids got careless
Started a mattress on fire.
Left the apartment with the mattress still smoking.

The fire grew and grew.

In the bedroom directly under us - as we slept.
Clueless to our impending fate.
(The smoke detector didn’t go off in time.)

Banging on our door woke us.

Sleepily I stumbled to [...]

You Want My Money

   Now.
At least make it easy to give.

Got another email solicitation.
From a foundation wanting money.
I was turned off with a single glance.

I could barely read their message - literally.

(No, it wasn’t my flu acting up.)
They used black font on a dark blue background.
Had to strain to distinguish words - impossible if color blind.

The headline was a [...]

I am NOT Miss Congeniality Today

   Understatement.
I’ve got the flu.

Batteries are drained.
Steamroller on my head.
Not fun.

I’m also a horrible patient.

(Just ask poor James and Nurse Raindrop!)
I don’t like to be down.
My grumpy shines through.

I need to watch who I talk with today!
Makes me think of chapter leaders…do you realize when you are off your game so you can prevent secondhand damage?

Big Ideas for Chapter Leaders

   You think?
December is Big Idea month.

According to ASAE and the Center’s Acronym blog.
They asked association bloggers to play along.
I’m being a team player - with a Cynthia twist of course.

Decided to play the “What if…” game for chapters.

You are invited to join in.
What are crazy ideas you could apply to chapters?
Especially if there were [...]

Honest Raindrop!

   Just ask her.
Raindrop is a talented dog.

She knows how to tell time.
Is a dynamic mascot for the Chapter Leaders Playground.
And she’s honest.

There are days so intense we forget if we fed Raindrop.

James and I may ask each other.
And be clueless.
There’s much going on…

So we ask Raindrop.

“Have you had lunch?”
If she hasn’t, ears perk and [...]

Attack of the Killer Cat

   He looked so innocent.
Friday I attended a party.

At a friend’s.
My first time there.
A lovely home.

They found me immediately.

Sweet and innocent looking.
Beautiful eyes.
Fluffy fur.

I moaned inside my head.

Why TWO cats?
I didn’t bring my allergy pills.
Perhaps they would stay away?

It was not my lucky night.

One cat decided to be my new best friend.
Every time I turned around.
He was there.

I gave [...]

The Motivational Speaker in Home Depot

   Fired me up.
Yesterday I ran an errand to Home Depot.

Had my list of questions.
Looking for options.
Asked a woman named Tommie.

Tommie had amazing patience with me.

She escorted me to a variety of departments.
Gave me advice.
And inside scoop.

I mentioned I needed a toilet replaced.

Wondered who to call.
And what to look out for.
She didn’t buy it.

“You can [...]
