An Almost Perfect Convention Promotion
Posted on August 2nd, 2009 by Cynthia D'Amour
Got an email encouraging me to attend an association’s convention.
- Finally one well done!
- It’s been a dry spell for a while.
- It was almost perfect - if not for three missing words.
First what they did well…
- The writer was personal with me.
- He understood and acknowledged the last few months.
- He felt my potential pain.
He provided solutions.
- To make things easier for my budget.
- New ways to attend.
- Such as discounts for groups by days.
It was almost a grand-slam letter.
- But he forgot one thing.
- His title.
- It was an identifier - not a formality.
I’m on the fringe of the association.
- I had no idea who the author was.
- He just gave his name.
- Not sure if CEO or volunteer leader - or someone else.
As odd as it sounds, the missing title lessened the impact of the wonderful email.
- I didn’t know who cared about me.
- Who understood me so well.
- And left me hanging as a stranger as a parting blow.
(The email could also use a stronger call to action - but if I knew who wrote it, it would have mattered less.)
Makes me think of chapter leaders…do you realize not everyone knows you by name?
