What Do You Think?

I recently attended a chapter meeting for business owners.
- The main program was top notch.
- (Even made me think!)
- Brought people out in the snow.
The supporting activities made me wonder.
- One of the officers gave away two door prize gifts.
- One half-way through the meeting.
- The second at the end of the meeting.
As the officer presented the first prize, they gushed about the law of attraction.
- The law of attraction was building their business.
- Everyone could benefit from using attraction principles.
- Obviously the winner was an attraction magnet!
The same person won the 2nd prize at the end of the program.
- The chapter officer bubbled over.
- More law of attraction at work!
- Everyone should touch the winner to catch some of the energy.
The reaction in the room was interesting.
- Some laughed at the attraction enthusiasm.
- Some nodded in agreement.
- And others grimaced uncomfortably.
So here is what I would love to hear from you:
- As a chapter officer, was it okay to be spouting law of attraction from the front of the room?
- (We heard it five or six times throughout the program.)
- Does it matter that it’s a business owners association?
Would your answer be different if comments were based in…
- Christianity or Judaism?
- Islamic beliefs?
- Amway sales pitches?
Makes me think of chapter leaders…how do you prepare your officers to represent your chapter in public?

Hmmm. Enthusiastic crowd, check. Top notch program, check. They came out even in bad weather, check. Door prizes to keep interest, check. Enthusiastic chapter leader, check.
The law of attraction says you get what you expect (both good and bad). Well, there’s certainly some truth in that. Can one be an “attraction magnet”? Yes, it’s called charisma. Business owners are among the most optimistic people on the planet and as Chapter leaders while preparation is appreciated, they still tend to go their own way. No harm. No foul.
Chock it up to sheer joy of a great program with a great crowd on a snowy night. Grimacing allowed (and understood) at no extra charge.
Kerry, love the energy of your response. You painted the picture well. Yes, there was a lot of enthusiasm behind the officer promoting law of attraction.
I’ve gotten two emails from folks who thought the officer should have maintained a more nuetral, “professional” position. The concern was that law of attraction is more controversial and may not really represent the chapter as it was intended.
One was also concerned about the impact on potential members - especially the ones who grimaced? You don’t get a second chance to make a good first impression.
