It Shouldn’t be This Hard

   To take time off.
I haven’t had a full day off yet in 2009.

Tons to do with my new Lazy Leader book.
Loading hundreds of leaders into the Chapter Leaders Playground.
Plus, I’m traveling to speak at leadership conferences and doing webinars.

All work and no play makes me grumpy.

Or at least that’s what James says.
I love what I’m doing.
And having [...]

Tricks for Treats

   And irresistible options.
It’s time for Raindrop to learn a new trick.

She has memorized my normal requests.
She speaks before I ask.
And drops into a down position.

I want to teach her how to shake.

I tell her to sit.
I tap her paw and say shake.
She doesn’t listen.

Raindrop wants to get to the treats faster.

Not learn new tricks.
When I ask [...]

Lesson Learned from a Marketing Master

 My cab driver!
This morning I took a cab to the airport.

The driver seemed like a nice guy.
The cab was clean.
Life was good.

As we pulled out, I noticed his taxi stats on the windshield.

The driver’s photo showed him holding a toddler.
The kid was adorable.
Below the photo it said “Alex and King”

I asked the driver if that [...]

When Crud Gets in Your Eyes…

You better have a Plan B.
Yesterday at 6 PM I was working on my computer.

Something dropped in one of my eyes.
Ouch!

I rubbed my eye trying to brush it out.

An easy flick of the wrist should do it.
But, the irritant was stubborn.
And so was I.

Somehow both hands got in the action.

I jimmied my eyelids trying to [...]

A Waste of Resources

   Or efficiency at work?
The snowplow trucks were just in our neighborhood again.

Scraped the streets of the remaining snow and ice.
I don’t understand why they are back.

Our last snow was several days ago.

We appreciated the help then.
It gave us safer access to the world.

Yesterday they scraped the streets in our neighborhood too.

Wasn’t sure why.
They had put down sand [...]

You are My Angel…

   And answer to my prayers.
Yesterday I spoke to the Kansas City Society of Association Executives.

Recruiting in the brave new world.
Talked about the critical importance of value.
Taught them how to hit hot buttons in all they do.

I ate lunch before flying out.

My waitress had waited on the KCSAE folks.
And heard my program.

“You were the best [...]

You Can Join Us…

   If you can find us!
Last Thursday we planned to attend the UM vs MSU Women’s Basketball game.

The Chamber was hosting a pregame mixer.
The first 50 to RSVP would get special goody bags.

A UM connection handled the ticket purchase.

We were getting a goody bag!
She told me where to go for mixer.
“Across the parking lot from the [...]

Jillian Michaels Was Waiting…

   At the door for ME!
Yesterday I started the Live Healthy America Challenge.

It runs 100 days.
My team is 2 Bikinis and 2 Speedos.

The Speedo I’m not married started upping the ante last week.

Doing some trash talking.
I need to beat him!
The competitor in me is totally activated.

Yesterday I went to the mall to go walking.

It was [...]
