“To boldly go where no one gone has before.”
Ken Cockrel, Jr. was just sworn in as the 61st mayor of Detroit.
The last few months have been rough for Detroit.
- The previous mayor was guilty of a felony.
- The economy weak.
- Frustrations of citizens growing.
Newly sworn-in Mayor Cockrel outlined his vision.
- He described next steps.
- He acknowledged the challenges.
Then he gave the people of Detroit what they really needed.
Cockrel ended on a message of hope and empowerment.
- As self-proclaimed geek.
- He quoted Star Trek.
- “To boldly go where no one has gone before.”
It was a powerful lead-in to close his speech.
- Cockrel again noted the mess they were in.
- He admitted he knew he was asking a lot of his citizens.
- He believed they would go into this unknown together - and create greatness.
Mayor Cockrel gets real leadership is about the people you serve.
Makes me think of chapter leaders…what kind of message do you give your members when you speak at chapter meetings?
