It Took Effort to Get Off the Couch
Posted on August 27th, 2008 by Cynthia D'Amour
I’m on a committee for the Jr. League of Ann Arbor.
We planned our meeting over a month ago.
- I received a few reminders about it.
- The meeting was on my Outlook calendar.
And yet, when my work day was over, my mind was fried.
- I had taught a webinar.
- Written an article.
- Consulted with a few chapter leaders.
I was tired - and the couch called my name.
- As I relaxed into a meditation (sounds better than nap!)
- I suddenly remembered I had a meeting to go to.
- UGH.
The couch felt good - and my shoes were off.
- Did I really need to go?
- It was a short meeting.
- How much could I miss?
I almost gave into the temptation to just stay on the couch.
- But then I thought about my chair.
- She’s been helpful to me.
- It was a voting meeting - and my presence mattered.
And so I dragged myself off to one last meeting for the day.
Makes me think of chapter leaders… when members are faced with decision to attend your chapter events, who will win - your chapter or the couch? Why?
