I Should Have Known Better…

All the warning signs were there.
Tonight, we had quite the adventure with Raindrop.
The first sign something was off - she wanted to sleep near my head.
- Usually Raindrop sleeps at the foot of our bed.
- Tonight, she insisted on being higher up.
- Maybe she was still getting over my week on the road? (Hah!)
She moved to get even closer - you know, her head hanging over mine.
Then the alarm bells went off!
- She started breathing heavy.
- Her stomach was in motion.
- She tried to put her nose to mine - ah the joys of being the alpha dog.
I yelled for James, “Get her off the bed NOW!”
- Like a superhero, James bolted out of a dead sleep to grab the dog.
- He ran her out to the tiled floor area.
- Raindrop promptly threw up.
ARGH!!!
I took Raindrop outside for fresh air while James cleaned up the mess.
- When we came in, she ran for her bed on the first floor.
- Great.
- One of us was going to sleep on the couch.
I drew the short straw - so here I am.
- Kicking myself.
- Why didn’t I see it coming?
- What did I miss that caused her to get sick?
(Ironically, Raindrop is snoring while I’m fuming as I type.)
Makes me think of chapter leaders…are you missing the warning signs of a challenge coming your way? How do you know?
