The Sometimes Forgotten Value…
Posted on June 2nd, 2008 by Cynthia D'Amour
Today I attended a budget discussion for a group I volunteer with.
In preparation for the meeting, I weeded through years of data - and found an interesting story to tell.
Knowing not all people like numbers as much as I do, I needed a way to make understanding easy to do.
- I recently purchased new mind mapping software.
- I planned to use it with a brainstorming webinar in the Chapter Leaders Playground later this week.
- I needed to learn the software… UGH!
A light went off in my head…
- A mind map is an easy way to present complicated information.
- I could use new software to prep for today’s program.
- Having a purpose made suffering the learning curve more rewarding.
The result was a hit.
- I condensed a ton of data into a one page executive summary.
- I can create a nice mindmap now.
Being able to “practice” in my volunteer role will propel me in my professional life - what a great return on my time!
Makes me think of chapter leaders… how do you maximize the value of time you spend serving as a leader?
