The House is Too Quiet…

   I miss my dog.
Yesterday we took Raindrop for her annual 4th of July visit with my folks.
She’ll be there almost ten days.

Last night I heard 20 separate fireworks episodes in our neighborhood.
If Raindrop was here, we would both have needed valium.
(Her for the noise - and me for having to watch her fear.)

Today our house is way [...]

Wrapping the First-Timer Story…

    Reflections from Ann Arbor.
I spent three full days at an annual conference as a first-timer.

It was an awkward experience at times.
It was an eye-opener.
I’m glad I did it.

At times, I wondered if I really was able to think as a first-timer.

I work so much with associations helping them get members more involved.
I spent the last day interviewing [...]

I Made it Past the Halfway Point…

  And am one tired puppy.
(This is day #3 of my new member experience at an annual convention.)
Another Rocky Start
This morning I felt like I went back to square one over breakfast.
I sat at a table with five people from the same company.

They could care less that I existed.
Basically ignored my attempts to start conversations.
I thought about [...]

Day #2: An Interesting Mix…

And a lot better than yesterday!
(I’m attending an annual convention as a first timer and struggled the day before.)
I got over my pitty party thanks to my recharged battery and began my search for new buddies in the bus transporting us to the convention center.

By person number five - yes, I just kept turning around in [...]

The Grand Experiment…

    How brave are you?
I’m in Atlanta to attend the week-long WBENC Annual Women in Business Conference. Welcome to my adventure!

Earlier this year, I certified my business as a women owned business.
The WBENC meeting brings together corporations who want to work with women owned businesses.

I’ve got two reasons for attending:

To build relationships with corporations who believe in developing leaders [...]

Got Connections at the Hyatt?

   I do.
I recently stayed a Hyatt Hotel.
As I finished the check in process, Vincent, the desk clerk, handed me my keys.
Ms. D’Amour. I put my name on your key holder. If you have any questions or need help while you are here, just give me a call.”
It was sort of weird…
I’ve heard a version [...]

Be Careful What You Ask For…

You just may get it.
Went to my hair salon on Martini night.
Told my stylist I wanted hip hair that made me look thinner.

The DJ was playing fun music.
 I relaxed into the night.

When my stylist spun me around…

I found a faux mohawk on my head.
I guess the upside down triangle does slim my face a bit…
Makes [...]

If First Impressions are Lasting…

What does your agenda say about you?
Last week I attended the kickoff meeting of the Nominating and Placement committee of the Jr. League of Ann Arbor.

This is my first year on the team.
There is a lot going on.

Prior to the meeting, the chair emailed out the agenda.
Just by looking at the agenda, I felt better [...]
