I Prefer a Birthday Cards with Heart…
Or with free meal coupons from my favorite restaurants.
I don’t need them from sales people I don’t have a relationship with.
A guy who has sent me email promotions for a year just sent me a virtual request for me to tell him when my birthday is.
- I know who he is.
- I’ve never responded to his inquiries.
- I don’t need his services.
Even more surprising… the request was simply a link to a form I can fill out - so it goes on his calendar with a reminder to send a card.
If he’s the sales person why should I do the work?
- Outlook gives birthday reminders too.
- Of course it would take him time to fill them out - instead of potential clients.
In case you can’t tell, this just irks me.
- Do you think I’m off base?
- Would you give your birthday to someone who wants to sell to you?
I wonder what he will do with the information…
- Will he sell the birthdays he collects to someone else?
- Or does he really want to send people he doesn’t know birthday cards?
- (I don’t know him well enough to know the answer.)
The radar is up…
Makes me think of chapter leaders…how do you identify the unintended consequences of potential board decisions?
