Do You Embrace Social Responsibility?

Virtual participants join from around the world   How about your chapter?

For the last two days I’ve been attending ASAE & The Center’s Global Summit on Social Responsibility.

(ASAE = American Society of Association Executives)

Yesterday 800+ association executives and stakeholders participated live with face-to-face conversations, satellite offices around the world and virtual participants to explore what the association industry can and should do about social responsibility.

David Cooperrider, the facilitator challenged us it was time to:

  • Stand up
  • Speak up
  • Scale up

We got down to business by sharing in groups what we were proud of and dreaming about what associations might do with social responsibility.

We also heard from a variety of busines leaders about the impact their companies’ social responsibility outreach efforts.

I learned some interesting things too…

  • The association industry touches about 287 million people (including your chapter) - and has huge potential with a focused impact.
  • Europe has diesel-hybrid car getting 70 mpg and GM has a plug-in hybrid coming which is supposed to get 100 mpg.
  • David Marriott (of the hotel family) is told by his kids to be a good “planet pal.”

Today we started the process of converting what we learned yesterday into potential implications for the association industry.

Lots of ideas - am curious to see how we can tap the potential of the association industry to create a coordinated and lasting impact on our world.

Makes me think of chapter leaders…what kind of social responsibility projects does your chapter support?
