I Prefer a Birthday Cards with Heart…

Or with free meal coupons from my favorite restaurants.
I don’t need them from sales people I don’t have a relationship with.
A guy who has sent me email promotions for a year just sent me a virtual request for me to tell him when my birthday is.

I know who he is.
I’ve never responded to his inquiries.
I don’t [...]

How Much Noise Can a Little Dog Make?

Enough to shake the walls if it’s Raindrop.
Yesterday Raindrop supervised Daddy helping Grandma and Grandpa plant their vegetable garden.
It took hours - and was hard work keeping all the “big dogs” in line.
Last night, Raindrop, camped out on Daddy, snored so loudly the walls shook - and I couldn’t hear the TV.
(Of course, James couldn’t be outdone [...]

I Know We Can’t All Be Special…

   And they can do better.
Today James got a letter from the University of Michigan asking for a donation.
Given all the bragging done by UM grads, I was surprised at the letter.
Here’s how the letter started out…
It’s been a few years since you graduated from the University of Michigan. Whether you’re working full time, continuing to go to school or [...]

Even Better Than a Jar of Jelly…

   This person made my day.
After kvetching on my blog about feeling sort of used as a volunteer yesterday, I discovered this delightful message about a leadership conference I spoke at last week in my email box…
Just a quick note to say Thanks. You did a great job.
I had never attended a leadership conference and [...]

Help Me See the Light…

   Maybe I’m overreacting?
Today was the final meeting - and all I got was a free diet coke.
Okay she did acknowledge my advice had made an impact - but still.
Let me go back to the beginning…
Over the years I’ve occasionally helped out the local small biz center’s clients by providing marketing feedback.
A few years ago, [...]

What Were They Thinking?

   I couldn’t believe my eyes!
Yesterday, I spoke at a leadership conference. I finished my speech in the afternoon and zipped to the bathroom to change from suit to jeans for the trip home.
The housekeeping lady had just started cleaning the bathroom stalls.

I decided to change at the counter.
All the nearby meetings just had their breaks.
Should be no [...]

Have They Gone Too Far?

   What do you think?
An association I know has decided to get involved with the war on obesity - and help their members be healthier.
At their events:

All meals will have calories calculated.
Overall daily consumption will be within a limited rate.
No desserts.
Only fresh fruit and other healthy snack for breaks.

No chocolate???
Their meetings will be very different than the usual conference [...]

Raindrop’s Annual Day of Volunteering

At the local Humane Society’s Walk and Wag.
Hi All!
Raindrop here.
Mom is busy uploading a bunch of new program information for the Chapter Leaders Playground so I thought I’d help out by writing in her blog tonight.
As you may remember, I’m a rescue dog.
Mom and Dad saved me after six months of being in the [...]
