Major Newspapers are on the Endangered List…

Guess the customer service folks at the Detroit Free Press didn’t get the memo.
When we arrived home from Orlando, we discovered our Detroit Free Press newpapers strewn all over our porch.

James had requested the delivery held.
Our delivery guy didn’t bother.

While frustrating, but not life threatening, I wondered why the Freep let this slide?

We really [...]

14-Hour Days in Orlando…

Spent in class - not with Mickey.
This weekend, James and I participated in Ford Saeks’ marketing intensive event.
I hadn’t looked forward to what I thought would be a grueling learning experience…

10-14 hour days in class.
Having to sit still for such a long time.
And let someone else do the bulk of the talking!

Ford’s [...]

We Did It!

   Shouted the voice from above.
A few days ago, James took off work to participate in a advocacy day with one of the groups he’s involved in.
Because of some of the side things going on in our life, it was challenging to get him out the door.

At points we debated whether or not he’d be able [...]

One vs. The Arb

  Who deserved the view?
To celebrate spring and get a workout in at the same time, James and I decided to walk through the UM Arboretum (the Arb) down to the river and back.

It’s a pretty steep hill.
About .65 miles each way.
A nice workout in a beautiful setting.

On the way down the hill, we noticed [...]

I Got Conned…

   By a 25 pound dog!
This weekend, while James was at his swim meet, Raindrop had an accident.
She was so excited about going outside, she rushed the door before I had fully opened it.
Raindrop slammed her shoulder into the door frame.
The next thing I knew, she was standing on three legs - with her front [...]

A Mile of Butterfly…

   Created quite the splash.
This weekend, James competed in the Michigan Master’s State Meet.
James is a distance swimmer.

One of his events was the 1650 yard freestyle.
That’s equivalent to one mile.

Freestyle means crawl to most - but not to James.
He prefers to compete in distant events doing the butterfly stroke.
And this weekend, boy did James butterfly [...]

I Can be a Card Carrying…

Donor to a nonprofit? Woo Hoo!
Today we got a donation request from a nonprofit we’ve supported in the past.
The mailing included:

A typical request letter from the CEO of the organization.
The story of a woman the organization helped.
A heavy cardboard membership card with my name on it as a sponsor.

The letter was expected and impact nice to [...]

I Won the Lottery!

At least that’s what the lady said.
Yesterday I spent the day in Washington, DC brainstorming with association executives the potential impacts of trends on the future of associations.
Charged by all the ideas spinning in my head, I floated down the Metro station escalator - and got in the wrong train!
I needed to get the [...]
