Happy Cows…

Can provide inspiration for volunteer leaders?
While in San Francisco, I caught a news report on the happy cows of California.

They are a source of pride.
They provide almost a quarter of the milk used in the US.

The farmers have learned…

Happy cows are less stressed.
Less stressed cows are more productive.
Therefore happy cows produce more milk.

Can the same [...]

A Threat to Raindrop…

Cleared my vision in a flash!
I met with a business advisor to get feedback on some potential strategies for the Chapter Leaders Playground.
After exploring all that was going on, he asked about my membership goals…
I stupidly remarked, “Reach that in six months - no problem. I thought I would have it done by the end of [...]

Tortured on Valentine’s Day

  What was she thinking?
My third grade teacher probably scarred a lot of her students with her approach to Valentine’s Day in the classroom.
On February 13th, we decorated brown bag mailboxes with hearts and anticipation.
Once everyone arrived on the 14th, we were ready to pass out our Valentines!

We all had our mailboxes on our desk.
Two [...]

Birth at Best Buy?

How did I miss that headline?
My web browser opens to Yahoo/AOL News - it helps keep me on top of what’s going on in the world.
Today I stumbled upon this headline in AOL Entertainment…
Christina Aguiliera made her first public appearance since giving birth at a Best Buy on Feb 5.”
Having a baby at Best Buy? [...]

A Hairy Tale…

Served me right for being on automatic pilot!
So I was in the hotel shower and not quite awake…
Forget singing. I was running through the main points of the speech I would give in just a few hours.
I sort of realized my hair wasn’t sudsy - the way it should be.

UGH! Hard water.
I grabbed more product and rubbed it on my [...]

Don’t Put Yourself on Sale

Was how Suze Orman described women who volunteer on her PBS special today.
Suze shared how at conventions where she speaks…

Women urge other women to volunteer more.
Men do not urge other men or predominantly male audiences to volunteer.

Suze stated women who volunteer have put themselves on sale - and should rethink it to better take [...]

Got Talent?

How about the ability to read with enthusiasm?
If you live in my mom’s neighborhood, your enthusiasm could qualify you to be part of her Variety Show.
Most neighborhood associations focus on city ordinances and may throw an occasional block party.
In Mom’s neighborhood, one of the annual highlights is her variety show (featuring only adults) - [...]

There’s More than One Way to Skin a Budget

Two guys from Ypsilanti just proved it.
For almost four years, there has been an effort to create Wireless Washtenaw - the county I live in.
Bureaucracy and budget continue to stall the process.
Two guys in neighboring Ypsilanti got tired of waiting for the county - and decided to create their own Wireless Ypsilanti.
It took:

Researching alternative approaches
An investment of [...]
