Excuse Me, Do You Have Gas?
Higher prices are coming our way!
I’m doing my annual review of what’s working and what’s not - including my membership in various associations and chapters.
With so much life to live, I want to make sure I’m putting my time where I get the biggest return.
One of the groups I belong too seems like a natural fit and an easy “yes” - until I start crunching numbers…
Events are usually on the other side of Metro Detroit - a 100+ mile round trip.
- With the IRS mileage rate around .50/mile = $50+ expense.
- Events usually run about $50 for registration.
- Time away from the office averages five hours/meeting.
Over a half day time commitment plus $100 might be worth it if I knew other members - but the meetings don’t leave a lot of time to have real conversations.
I have been invited to join a committee…
- Meetings tend to start at 7 AM.
- Meetings are usually 50+ miles from my bed.
- They don’t offer a call-in option.
Getting more involved is a bridge too far for me.
I’ve belonged for two years and am not ready to walk away yet - BUT, I am debating the value of sticking around.
My membership expires in a few months. I’ll do another review then - and see if anything has changed.
Makes me think of chapter leaders…with gas prices on the rise again, how do you help your members remember the value of belonging?
