800 People Attended Their Meeting
Posted on July 29th, 2007 by Cynthia D'Amour
In February 2005, three women had an idea.
They were tired of:
- Blogging/tech conferences where the speakers were almost entirely male.
- Lack of linking blog to blog across the sexes.
- Feeling overlooked.
The three women decided to do something about it…
They created BlogHer - a community for women bloggers.
I just attended the third annual BlogHer conference.
Imagine…
- 800 attendees - predominantly women
- Amazing sessions with 150 women speakers shared the secrets to making their blogs a success.
- General sessions that included renown tech visionary Esther Dyson, Rashmi Sinha, CEO of Slideshare and Elizabeth Edwards - long time blogger and wife of presidential candidate John Edwards.
I had a great time…
- I Iearned a lot.
- I met people from across the spectrum of bloggers.
- I made some new friends.
BlogHer07 would have done any association proud.
The three founding women don’t hate men.
They didn’t like feeling ignored - and decided to do something about it.
Made me think of chapter leaders… how do you make sure that your events reflect all of your membership - rather than just the composition of your board?
