The Turning Point Volunteer

Ann Arbor Jaycees’ ParadeI attended - and no one knew who I was…

I was the turning point volunteer for the Jaycee’s Annual 4th of July Parade.

When James and I were dating, his Jaycee chapter was struggling to pull off a 4th of July parade.

The chairs were committed - and over their heads.

Ironically, I had chaired a good-sized and successful parade a year earlier…

I met with the chapter’s parade chairs and taught them the structure I used to run my parade.

The chairs were extremely grateful for my help - and, with my system in hand, pulled off a successful parade that year.

After the parade, I got special recognition from the chairs for my turning point help.

Building upon the structure I shared, the 4th of July parade has continued to be a success - for more than 10 years.

I attended the parade on Wednesday.

All the Jaycees working the parade walked right by me as if I was simply another face in the crowd - no one knew who I was.

It didn’t matter.

I knew I had made a difference - and was proud of my legacy.

Made me think of chapter leaders… What legacy will you leave your chapter?
