I Survived Being Unplugged

Cynthia’s Computer WithdrawalsBut it wasn’t always easy.

As an experiment, I did not turn on my computer for over 30 hours so I would be unplugged for the 4th of July.

It was an eye-opener to see how much my computer has infiltrated my life.

Without my computer, I didn’t…

  • Have my morning news
  • Know whether it would rain on the parade
  • Have the coupon for my favorite holiday sale
  • Know the phone number of anyone not on speed dial
  • Know what was on TV
  • Have the directions or a map to get to the party

I also…

  • Felt out of touch with my friends
  • Missed my evening news review
  • Felt disappointed I couldn’t play with the photos I just took.
  • Stumbled throughout the day missing the easy access to information on my computer

What I learned…

  • My computer is an integrated tool in my life
  • I have to plan better before going offline next time
(Print up the sale coupons, TV schedule - and map to party!)

I guess it’s like that old song says, “You don’t know what you’ve got ’till it’s gone…”

Made me think about chapter leaders…What kind of experiments do you run to identify what is working for your chapter?
