I Wasn’t Willing to Pay the Price

Today I could have been mad several times.
I flew across the country to San Diego…
- I didn’t get an aisle seat
- The guy sitting next to me in the plane got huffy every time I wanted to get up to walk around.
- It took almost an hour for luggage to show up in baggage claim.
- The hotel I’m staying at is under construction and my room was surrounded in stereo banging.
I could have been mad at a lot of this. I would not have been alone. Many of the people at the airport were seeing red about the wasted hour.
Sure all that stuff happened - but what would be my payoff if I got really mad?
I had more to lose…
- I love being in San Diego
- It was a gorgeous day
- I’m working with a great association here.
- I got to go to dinner at a very cool place with the some of the leaders and staff.
All of the neat stuff would not have been as fun - if I was still carrying the remains of a very mad day.
As a leader, how do you decide when it will cost too much to get mad? What do you do to keep your perspective in the situation?
