The Bald Man Did It
I’m staying at a hotel that prides itself on its contemporary look. There’s lots of geometric and aluminum type design throughout the hotel.
The bathroom is decorated along the same genre. The sinks are big flat squares that run at least two feet from the wall to the edge of the sink. (See photo).
What does this have to do with a bald man?
The only electrical outlet in the room is located between the two sinks. The hairdryer cord loses two feet of length just making it across the sinks.
It’s a well known fact that to add body to one’s hair, you dry it upside down by bending over at the waist. Around the world, they recommend drying hair this way to add volume - even the UK Salon Collective recommends the approach to helping limp hair.
I took an informal survey of some ladies at the meeting today and all of them dry their hair upside down.
My conclusion?
A bald man must have designed the bathroom. The only way I’ll be able to do my normal hair drying routine will be to stand on my head in the sink due to size of the sinks and location of the electrical outlet!
Tommorow morning is going to be quite an adventure!
USA Today reported last year that 40% of business travelers are women. The hotel bathroom designer obviously missed the memo.
Makes me think about chapter leaders…
When you plan your chapter’s programs are your selections based on what you personally would enjoy - or do you work to include what might be more attractive a large portion of your members?

Hi Cynthia!
‘Met you at national NAPO conference. Great to see you blogging!
Wonderful post… you are completely correct. One outlet? Sick. One would think you could call the hotel and get an extension cord— but who does that? Too much hassle.
On the other hand, have you ever used those hair dryers in hotels in Europe? Those hair dryers wouldn’t blow out a match.

Hey John!
Thanks for stopping by! I was quite pumped up by your blogging comments when we talked at the NAPO conference.
I’ve been frustrated by short hair dryer cords and never thought of calling for an extension cord. Could save me from awful limp hair - which is always a drag when I have to take the stage to speak!
Makes me buggy when I can dry my hair faster by running around the room in circles than using the hair dryer provided!
