Getting Started
I have written at least ten different versions of this first entry. It doesn’t make sense.
I’ve been speaking about leadership to volunteer leaders for twelve years - and most of my lifetime. For the past eight years, I’ve had an e-zine - “Cynthia D’Amour’s Active Member Minute” and have sent it out over 300 times. I’ve written six books with a seventh on the way.
You would think with that much writing this would be no big deal. UGH!
I want to start off on the right tone. I want this to be a place to celebrate leadership in everyday moments. I want to be able to bring together chapter leaders from groups around the world to explore insights.
I want to build a community of leaders who care about their associations - and all they can be.
I’ve got some big goals and high hopes that I know will take time. In the meanwhile, I think I’m just going to start. What you see is what you get…
Have any of you toiled so hard over making the right first impression that you almost missed the boat? Double UGH!
Whew! I guess I’m done with the beginning. Now we can start talking about the important stuff.
Here’s to a great relationship - and finally a start!

Kudos to you Cynthia for beginning the conversation about association leadership issues! And for using a blog to do so.
There’s a lot to say. And a lot to learn from each other.
Let the learning begin…..
Thanks Becky! It’s great to hear from you.
I am really excited to have you join the conversation! You bring a ton of wisdom to the discussion.
Hello Cynthia, I think that the blog will be a great help. Our local medical alliance in Georgia, which has been totally inactive for the past three years has new prospective members interested in restarting the group. We have many questions. I look forward to your e-zines and now the blog as tools to help them. I also would be interested in hearing from other group leaders who have helped refuel an organization. Thanks, Kay Smith (Blond and talkative)
Hi Kay!
Thanks for writing here - and for spreading the word through the Alliance. I know there are a lot of talented leaders reading this blog. Hopefully more will begin to speak up and share what has worked for them.
